Emmy winner Kathryn Joosten, whose emotional death scene as Karen McKluskey gave Desperate Housewives‘ recent series finale its biggest emotional punch, died yesterday of lung cancer in Westlake Village, CA. She was 72.
When I watched the Desperate Housewives series finale, I found that scene so upsetting — largely because I was so attached to her as Mrs Landingham in The West Wing. Seeing her death performed on-screen, in a way it wasn’t on West Wing, was so distressing to me. And now this. There are a number of episodes of Joosten’s career that it will take a while for me to be able to watch now, not least Two Cathedrals. She was a really special actress, whose talent spanned both comedy and drama.
